STORIES TO HEAR          a storyteller’s life

WHERE DO I TELL?

At festivals and in concerts, to audiences large and small.  I need a space of some quiet and containment, of comfort for my listeners but, apart from that, I’m flexible.  I do concerts in theatres, in tents, in people’s houses.  Let’s talk.

IS THERE MORE?

There is indeed!  I can mix and match from my repertoire.  I will add new material if you have a particular theme in mind.  I’ve told a lot of stories -- sometimes even personal ones.  You want a tale from The Mabinogion?  I can do that.  A love story?  I’ll find you just the one.

   WHAT ABOUT LENGTH?

Most of my shows are an hour.  A Book of Spells is a full evening -- two forty minute sets and a break.  Here too I’m willing to accommodate what particular situations demand.

DO I WORK WITH OTHER TELLERS?

Delightedly!

WHAT DO I CHARGE FOR MY SERVICES?

Contact me to find out about rates.  Just remember, I live quite near to Ottawa, Ontario.  If I have to travel a distance I need to be sure my expenses will be covered.

CURRENT SHOWS

A BOOK OF SPELLS

Tales of magic realism by English writer, Sara Maitland, serve as a backdrop of revelation to a developing relationship.  Two strong women, their lives forever changed.  Told with my life partner, Jennifer Cayley.

THE STONE BOOK

A young girl travels from the top of a church steeple to the depths of a pre-historic cave.    Set in early nineteenth century England, taken from Alan Garner’s, The Stone Book Quartet.  The journey “puts a quietness on her.” Audiences feel the same.

THE WOMEN OF THE ODYSSEY

The stories of Odysseus’s meeting with the Phaeacian princess and his reunion with his wife, Penelope, skillfully linked to give a strong sense of the whole.

WISDOM OF THE AGES

Folk tales, fairy tales, wonder tales drawn from my wide and much-loved repertoire, chosen especially for your event.

SUN HORSE, MOON HORSE

Set in Bronze Age Britain, an imaginative recreation of the cutting of one of the ancient chalk horses in the down-land hillsides.  An artist’s gift to save the life of his tribe.  Drawn from Rosemary Sutcliff’s classic novel.
